A collaboration with Kanye West was first reported by a close affiliate of both artists, the Hollywood Unlocked founder, Jason Lee revealed it during a January 2022 episode of his podcast [UNLOCKED]. Ye later confirmed this during an interview with Jason Lee in the same month.
The track was first teased on the episode, “Cardi Tries Rhythmic Gymnastics,” of her Facebook series, Cardi Tries, which aired on August 5, 2021.
Cardi shared a longer snippet of her verse on June 29, via social media, showcasing the sampling of 1983’s Marcia Griffiths hit “Electric Boogie.” The song premiered on HOT97 hours before its official release.
Cardi B spoke on Kanye West’s verse and the process behind it in an interview with Zane Lowe for New Music Daily Radio:
“Kanye gave me this verse a couple of months ago when he was just all over the media, because of all of the things that were going on, and I like how his verse it’s personal, but it’s not that personal. It’s enjoyable in the clubs that you could be like, ‘Yeah, yeah. You talk your big cash.’ I really love it. And I’m so happy that he gave me this verse. And I had a lot of conversations with Kanye West. I learned so much about him and he’s such an amazing, sweet person. I’ve been feeling like, I wish a lot of people have conversations with him so they could just see the real him.
This is the first time Cardi B has worked with either Kanye West or Lil Durk.
However, Durk and Kanye previously collaborated on the 2021 song “Jonah,” a track from Ye’s tenth studio album, Donda.
